It has become popular and nowadays, there are numerous artists in different parts of the world crafting reborn dolls sold all over the globe.
Initially, reborn babies became famous to artists, hobbyists and doll collectors. Then it became a source of solace for grieving mothers who lost their babies and melancholic mothers missing their grown-up children. But now, more and more women of all ages of different professions are adopting reborn babies.
One of the famous artists for reborn dolls is Lynn Katsarsis, who has been crafting reborn dolls since 1990s. She has made more than 1,000 dolls that were sold to artists and collectors in different parts of the globe. According to her, reborn dolls fill a spot in our hearts.
Fran Sullivan is a 62-year old childless woman from Florida has a collection of about 700 dolls including a few reborn dolls. She said when she was a child she talked to her dolls and expressed her feelings toward her dolls, and at her age now, she is still the same girl she used to be. She said, every time she has a new doll, she walks in the streets with the doll and shows it off to her neighbors and she loves it when they say how beautiful her “baby” is.
Another reborn doll collector is 41-year old from New York, Monica Walsh, a wife and mother to little girl. Although she has a daughter, she takes care of her doll like a real baby and it she does not feel that the doll replaces her daughter. She straps her doll in an infant seat and even puts it into a stroller when she is with her daughter. According to Walsh, even her husband likes the reborn doll and cuddles it. She said collecting dolls make her happy and she feels that she’s a little girl that loves dolls.
